The 13th Marsosang Football Trophy, organized by Rocky Club, Chuchuyimlang, kicked off today at Langpangkong Tsükong GHS Chuchuyimlang Play Ground. Dr. Sentitula, IFS Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung, was the Chief Guest whose speech centered around the legacy of Marsosang.
The IFS challenged everyone to embrace Marsosang’s qualities and encouraged players to reflect on possessing a “smart” personality, which stands for ‘Specific,’ ‘Measurable,’ ‘Achievable,’ ‘Realistic,’ and ‘Time-bound Tangible.’ She urged them to play with discipline and utilize their talents effectively.

L Yanger, Executive Member, Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) expressed optimism about the tournament, appreciating the organizing committee’s efforts. MDFA, established in 1992, has been contributing to Mokokchung district players for 31 years. He appreciated the Marsosang Football Trophy, held every two years for the past 13 years and said that the tournament is seen as a positive initiative for the younger generation. Talitemsu, Convenor of the MFT Organizing Committee, in his welcome address, mentioned the establishment of Marsosang Football in 1994 and thanked the sponsoring family.
The tournament offers a cash prize of 1,50,000/-along with a Trophy and Certificates for the winner, while the runners-up will receive 80,000 with Trophy and Certificates. Individual prizes include Best Defender, Best Goalkeeper, Player of the Tournament, Highest Goal Scorer, Best Team, and awards for Two Semi-finalists.

This year’s tournament will witness twelve teams participating, including AKOJU CLUB, WINGERS CLUB, YOUNGSTERS FC, VISIONS, TELONGJEM FC, ROCKY CLUB, UNITED BOYS, ENDZONE ELITE, N.OBANG MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TEAM, TEAM GILGAL, UNGERLONG FC, and MARSOSANG SC.

The first match took place between Arju Club and Wingers Club in Ground one, with Arju Club emerging victorious with a score of 2-1. Meanwhile, in Ground two, Youngsters FC faced Rocky Club, resulting in a dominant win for Rocky Club with a score of 14-2. The tournament is set to conclude on December 16. N. Obang Memorial Football Team (MFT) is the defending Champion.
Marsosang, born in 1901, was one of Nagaland’s wealthiest individuals. He was a First -class contractor, businessman, and founding member of Mokokchung Town. His contributions include the development of Langpangkong Range road, formerly known as “Tsükong Lenmang” and now as “Amguri road NH-2.” He began his humble beginning in an Assam Tea Garden, working as a Mohori under British rule.
