251 households affected in Tuensang landslide: Tuensang DC informs

Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Management Authority Tuensang, on Saturday informed that 251 households in Tuensang has been affected by the landslide.

Addressing a press conference on August 10 at the relief camp Tuensang, Rutsa highlighted the efforts undertaken to provide aid and relief to the affected citizens.

Rutsa updated that the landslide began in April where a few houses at St. John B ward were  damaged, with a total of 251 households affected till date. “We have opened relief camps in two locations,the motive was to give temporary relief to the badly affected families. This relief camps are not meant for a particular colony or a ward but it’s for the whole of Tuensang District,” clarified the DC.

Two relief centres has been operational since August 1, sheltering 150 affected people.

The DC thanked the Tuensang Village Council for providing the place where they shelter the people who are affected by landslide and  sinking area.

As of now, 11 houses has been fully damaged and dismantled. The district authorities have also activated the instant response system that is Incident Response system (IRS) in the disaster management comprising of the responsible officer and chairman of the disaster management authority, safety officer, medical team, media officer information officer alongside the medical team on 24X7 duty to provide assistance to all the affected people

Rutsa acknowledged the aid and assistance provided by the NGOs, and faith based organisation and expressed gratitude to them

“It may go on for 30 days or beyond. The main intention of opening relief camp is to facilitate rehabilitation and to enable them to resume their normal activities. We have so much concern for the students there,” said Rutsa mentioning that the releif shelters have 57 students (30 boys and 27 girls). They have arranged a study hall for them to ensure that their studies are not affected. Further regular transportation and tiffins has been arranged to ensure the students do not miss out on their education.

The DC further informed that the Fire emergency Services, the power department and the district disaster management officer, the DPA of Tuensang are available to assist them.

She also expressed gratitude to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA)led by the Chief Minister who is the chairman of NSDMA, Advisory, CEO, the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, the Home commissioner, OST of NSDMA for promptly providing assistance and making the relief camp operational.

As humans, we don’t have control over the natural calamities and disaster so we hope that it won’t get worst,” expressed Rutsa.
