A consultative meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS was held at DC’s Office, Kohima on June 30 to address a representation submitted by the Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) seeking immediate repairs to the National Highway stretch within Meriema Village jurisdiction.
The meeting was attended by officials from the District Administration, PWD (NH), representatives of the contractor M/s Nitin Sai Construction, and members of the MVYO. The youth organisation highlighted the poor condition of the road, citing incomplete works, inadequate drainage, uncleared debris, and delays in execution despite repeated representations since March.
The Executive Engineer, PWD (NH), informed that proposals for repairing the sinking stretch had already been submitted and that the work order for the affected section was expected to be issued on 30th June. The contractor acknowledged that while some work had been carried out, the project remained incomplete.

During the meeting, the contractor committed to begin mobilisation of materials by 2nd July and resume work immediately, while PWD (NH) assured that work on the sinking stretch would commence by 6th July following the issuance of the work order. It was also decided that the District Administration and the MVYO would jointly monitor the progress of the works, with the department and contractor coordinating closely to ensure timely completion.
In view of the commitments made, the MVYO agreed to withdraw its proposed restrictions on the movement of government-registered vehicles within Meriema Village jurisdiction. The Deputy Commissioner thanked all stakeholders for their cooperation and stressed the importance of timely execution of the agreed works.
