Dimapur Night Carnival 2024 inaugurated

The Dimapur Night Carnival 2024 was inaugurated at the Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) Stadium, Golaghat Road, on 12th December 2024. The carnival is jointly organized by Dimapur Municipal Council, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industries and District Administration, Dimapur. The carnival is scheduled from December 12 to 16, 2024 between 5 PM and 10 PM.

The Inaugural program was led by Matsung Ozukum, with Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along as the special guest. Along formally inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon, followed by an invocation by Pastor Kenei Kiso.

Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur and Chairman of the Dimapur Night Carnival, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the significance of the event in promoting local culture, entrepreneurship, and tourism. He expressed delight at the event entering its 12th year, organised by the District Administration in collaboration with various organisations.

Highlighting the uniqueness of this year’s carnival, Chang noted that it was made more special by the presence of all the newly elected councillors of the Municipal Council, who had worked together to make the event even more vibrant and festive.

Chang reflected on the growing enthusiasm and energy surrounding the carnival since its inception, emphasizing that it was initially started to encourage and support young and upcoming entrepreneurs. At the same time, the event aimed to provide a safe space for Dimapurians of all ages to gather and enjoy memorable moments with their families and friends.

As the winter carnival commenced, Chang encouraged everyone to embrace the festive spirit of Christmas and celebrate community and togetherness.

In his speech, the Special Guest, Temjen Imna Along emphasized the importance of such events in fostering unity and showcasing Dimapur’s diverse heritage. He expressed his gratitude to various stakeholders, including the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), and the police for their efforts in organizing the event.

He highlighted Dimapur’s vital role as the economic hub of Nagaland, emphasizing its impact on the state’s overall growth and stability. Acknowledging the challenges faced by the city, he stressed the need for collective efforts to address issues like illegal taxation and anti-social activities that hinders Dimapur’s development.

Imna Along noted the significance of Dimapur in facilitating the successful conduct of the 25th Hornbill Festival at Kisama, praising the city’s administration and police for their support. He encouraged the DMC to focus on both municipal responsibilities and the broader well-being of Dimapur’s citizens.

He also reassured non-Naga communities regarding concerns related to the Inner Line Permit (ILP), clarifying that the government’s measures aim to address illegal immigration without disrupting the lives of long-time residents who have contributed to the city’s growth. Along urged the community to work together to ensure Dimapur becomes a safe, inclusive, and thriving city, fostering economic and social progress. He concluded by commending the organizers of the Night Carnival for their efforts in creating a vibrant space for families and youth to enjoy while promoting business and community spirit.

Following the ceremony, he visited numerous stalls, which displayed an array of local crafts, cuisines, and entertainment options. The program featured special musical performances by renowned artists Ying P and Temjenchuba Ozukum.

The Dimapur Night Carnival has more than 125 stalls set up and local artists and guest artists performing live and promises an exciting line up of activities, like different games, photo booth, culinary delights, and display and sale of various handicrafts over the next five days.
