FNR clarifies on May 14 common platform on Naga issue

The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has clarified that the “common platform for resolving Indo-Naga political issue” scheduled to be held on May 14 at Agri Expo, Dimapur is neither being organized by the Forum nor has it come to the point of consenting to be a part of this program. The clarification comes after a poster of the May 14 event was being circulated in social media platforms wherein FNR was mentioned as one of the organizers.

The FNR issued a statement on Sunday, maintaining that while the quest for Nagas to come together is clearly undisputed needing careful and thoughtful steering, a “virtuous work” needs the support of every Naga organization and some more time is needed.

FNR stated that though not publicized, the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and Naga tribal hohos have already sat nine rounds of meeting this year since January 14, based on the “Historical and Political rights of the Nagas”.

“We are in the midst of a process and we have reached a sensitive point, which needs some more time. More meetings are on the schedule,” the statement said.

Making it public that all Nagas must come together and no one should be left out, FNR is cautious that understanding each other’s difficulties and being more patient is important to avoid faltering.

“What we have garnered, with much toil, must not be allowed to slip by. One core conviction is clear: Doors must be kept open for the future. The NPGs, the Tribal Hohos and the FNR wish all to honour the Covenant of Reconciliation,” the FNR statement added.
