Longmisa Village celebrated the Moatsü Festival on May 3 at the Longmisa Playground. The occasion of Longmisa Senso Moatsümong was graced by Tongpang Ozukum, MLA and Advisor for Water Resources, Government of Nagaland, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Minister Tongpang Ozukum, speaking at the Moatsü Festival celebration, congratulated Longmisa Government High School for achieving a 100% pass rate in the recent HSLC examinations. He lauded the students, teachers, parents, and the entire village community for this remarkable accomplishment.
Expressing joy at being part of the celebration, Ozukum said that while he has attended many Moatsü festivals, “the 2025 Moatsü Festival will remain the most special one” in his life. He thanked the Longmisa Village Council and the organizing committee for hosting the event and creating a space for shared joy and unity.
Highlighting the significance of Moatsü, Ozukum reminded the gathering that it is a festival of gratitude—celebrated after the sowing season, to seek God’s blessings and to strengthen family and community bonds. He reflected on how the presence of rainfall during this time feels like a divine affirmation, saying that the conclusion of Moatsü at Longmisa “may be God’s own plan.”
Addressing cultural concerns, Ozukum raised alarm over the growing influence of Western culture, which he said is eroding the Ao and broader Naga identity. He emphasized the importance of preserving traditions such as respectful greetings and the Ao language, which he warned is in a state of crisis. He commended Longmisa for upholding ancestral values by organizing such festivals, noting their role in educating and grounding younger generations.
Commending the Kosasanger Putu ( current village leadership generation), he described them as visionary leaders working not only for the village but for broader society.
In a significant announcement, Ozukum committed Rs. 25 lakhs for the development of a new village ground, starting from December this year. He also acknowledged a representation submitted by the village council regarding road maintenance and connectivity, assuring his support while noting that timelines remain uncertain. However, he expressed hope that the project would materialize soon, especially with the village centenary approaching.
On the political front, Ozukum reflected on the long-standing relationship between Longmisa and his native village Mongsenyimti. Citing the wisdom of their forefathers, he emphasized that there has never been enmity between the two villages. “Our history has always been one of friendship and mutual respect,” he said.

He acknowledged that during elections, differing ideologies and perspectives may emerge, but he stressed that such differences are natural in a democratic setting. “We may have varied understandings and approaches during elections, but that doesn’t change the fact that we are friends — as our forefathers have always reminded us,” he said. He further added, “Even today, as I stand here, I carry no hard feelings. I believe the same is true on both sides.”
Ozukum appealed to the people during the Moatsü Festival, urging everyone to let go of any political grudges. “Elections are about competition, and it’s natural to stand on different sides during that time. But this festival is a time of unity — let us not hold on to resentment. I can assure you, there is no ill will from my village either,” he affirmed.
Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among the twelve areas under the Angetyongpang Assembly Constituency. “Longmisa, being the largest among the twelve areas, plays a vital role. Under your exemplary leadership and guidance, we hope to journey together toward a brighter future,” he said, while encouraging all villagers present to take collective responsibility in shaping that future.
