Mokokchung: Defending Champion M.H.10 Kohima advances to semifinals

Ozümi Volleyball Team, Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur, Changtongya Volleyball Association, and MH-10 Kohima have advanced to the semifinals at the ongoing 13th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy in Mokokchung.

In Friday’s semifinals, Ozümi Volleyball Team will face off against Changtongya Volleyball Association, while Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur is set to take on MH-10 Kohima. The matches promise to be intense as all four teams will battle it out tomorrow for a place in the finals of the 13th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2024 and a chance to lift the prestigious trophy.

The second day of the tournament, held on August 22, 2024, continued to thrill spectators with a series of intense and closely contested matches, including three league matches and the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinal Matches Report – 13th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2024

The first Quarterfinal match was played between Tongden Club and Ozümi Volleyball Team.

Score:

Set 1: Tongden Club 8 – 25 Ozümi Volleyball Team

Set 2: Tongden Club 13 – 25 Ozümi Volleyball Team

Ozümi Volleyball Team won the match convincingly in straight sets. They dominated from the beginning, showcasing superior skills and coordination. Tongden Club struggled to keep up, particularly in the first set, where they only managed to score 8 points. Despite a better performance in the second set, they were unable to turn the tide, leading to Ozümi Volleyball Team advancing to the semifinals.

 

The second Quarter Final match was played between Megempong Soyim and  Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur

Score:

Set 1: Megempong Soyim 19 – 25 Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur

Set 2: Megempong Soyim 18 – 25 Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur

Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur secured their spot in the semifinals with a straight-sets victory over Megempong Soyim. Both sets were competitive, with Megempong Soyim putting up a fight, particularly in the first set. However, Itovi Memorial Team’s consistent play and strong finishing in crucial moments allowed them to take both sets and win the match.

The third Quarter Final match was played between United Changki and Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA)

Score:

Set 1: United Changki 18 – 25 CVA

Set 2: United Changki 25 – 21 CVA

Set 3: United Changki 19 – 25 CVA

CVA emerged victorious in a tightly contested three-set match against United Changki. The first set saw CVA take an early lead with a 25-18 win. United Changki bounced back in the second set, managing to edge out CVA 25-21. However, in the decisive third set, CVA held their nerve to win 25-19 and advance to the next round. The match was one of the most competitive of the day, with both teams displaying high levels of skill and determination.

 

The fourth Quarter Final match was played between Pangti Volleyball Team vs. M.H.10, Kohima

Score:

Set 1: Pangti Volleyball Team 16 – 25 M.H.10, Kohima

Set 2: Pangti Volleyball Team 20 – 25 M.H.10, Kohima

M.H.10, Kohima triumphed over Pangti Volleyball Team in straight sets. The first set saw M.H.10, Kohima establish control with a 25-16 victory. Pangti Volleyball Team tried to rally in the second set, improving their score to 20 points, but M.H.10, Kohima proved too strong, sealing the match with a 25-20 win. This victory secured M.H.10, Kohima’s place in the semifinals.

Results of League Matches on Day Two:

Match 10: Archippus Club Waromung vs. Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur

Score: 13-25, 26-28

Winner: Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur

Itovi Memorial Team Dimapur put on a strong performance, dominating the first set with a convincing 25-13 win. Archippus Club Waromung fought back fiercely in the second set, pushing the game to a tight finish, but Itovi Memorial Team managed to clinch the set 28-26, securing their victory without the need for a third set.

Match 11: Tongden Club Chungtia vs. Arikotong, Mangmetong

Score: 25-21, 21-25, 25-21

Winner: Tongden Club Chungtia

In a match that went the distance, Tongden Club Chungtia won the first set 25-21. Arikotong, Mangmetong responded by taking the second set 25-21, setting up a thrilling decider. The third set was tightly contested, but Tongden Club Chungtia managed to edge out their opponents with another 25-21 win, claiming victory in the match.

Match 12: Temulonger Club Yisemyong vs. Pangti Volleyball Team

Score: 21-25, 17-25

Winner: Pangti Volleyball Team

Pangti Volleyball Team demonstrated their superiority by securing a straight-sets victory over Temulonger Club Yisemyong. They won the first set 25-21 and continued their dominance into the second set, winning it 25-17 to seal the match.
