The Mokokchung District BAR Association celebrated it’s Golden Jubilee under the theme ‘Reaching Out’ at Town Hall, Mokokchung on 15 November.
The Mokokchung BAR Association was established in 1972 with six members. Tajenyuba Ao from Mangmetong village was the first advocate from Mokokchung district.
Justice S Serato, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench was the Golden Jubilee Guest of the event.
In his speech, Serato highlighted that, like in other fields, the people of Mokokchung are blessed in the field of law too.
He stated the difference between a lawyer and a doctor and professed that a lawyer’s profession is not an easy profession to take up in its initial stage.
Serto said the establishment of the BAR Association in the state has been challenging but the sacrifice of the past dignitaries who worked tirelessly have made it successful in the field of law within the state. He appreciated the people of Mokokchung for striving further with effort and determination on the principles of law.
The Justice went on to say that the life of a lawyer is not as easy as one thinks and encouraged the people present that persistence of a person leads to success. He further stated that the services of the lawyers are immense as the country is run by rules.
“People who respect and obey the laws are one step ahead than the ones who do not follow law,” he said, adding that the duty of lawyers “still remains the same”.
He called upon the people present to ask whether they, living in a democratic country, have a government for the people, by the people and of the people.
One cannot expect to go forward with development in a society where there is lawlessness, he said, adding that a chaotic society is the result of there being no vision.
He encouraged all present to maintain and respect the law in any profession and spread legal awareness. Societal practices and norms are to be respected in order to maintain peace in the society, he added.
Serto further said society is dynamic and laws are made to meet the need of the time. Remarking that it is difficult to give up old practices owing to human behaviour, he encouraged for deliberation and discussion for the welfare of the people and society for peaceful coexistence.
Also speaking in the programme, B Tako Longkumer, Advocate and Founding Member said: “One’s profession is a noble profession, Advocate is also one among the noble professions of the world.”
The service of the advocate is the engineer in human society, he said and referred to the advocate’s service as the estimate to stabilize the society.
Jubilee Greetings were delivered by Shashank Pratap Singh IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Somet C Chang, Principal District & Session Judge, Mokokchung and A Zhimomi, President respectively.

The DC in his greetings lauded the Mokokchung District BAR Association for reaching out to the people in need by spreading legal awareness for the welfare of the people of the district.
“Rule of law is very instrumental for the progress of a society,” he said and added, “rule of laws ensures responses for every action”.
Precised and Comprehensive Jubilee Souvenir to reminisce the past and rejuvenate the present was released by Lordship Justice S Serato, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
The celebration witnessed the theme song by the Jubilee Choir while a special number was presented by Sademlila.

The opening ceremony was graced by Mokokchung Law College Students’ Union (MLCSU).
The program was chaired by Molodongba, Advocate, while the invocation was pronounced by Rev Temsuwati, Pastor, MTBA.
I Imkong Jamir, Advocate, President, MDBA presented the Presidential Address and Rev Dr Temsu S, pastor of Alempang Baptist Church pronounced the closing prayer.
