Wokha district emerges overall champion of Nagaland State level U-14 Taekwondo Tournament

Kohima: Chumoukedima district came in second with three Gold medals and one Silver

The 14th edition of the State level U-14 Catch them Young Tournament (Taekwondo) held at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima concluded on Friday with Wokha district as overall champion by winning four Gold medals and one Bronze.

Chumoukedima district came in second with three Gold medals and one Silver in the tournament that witnessed participation from15 districts. Around 150 athletes competed during the two days event.

Development Commissioner and Principal Secretary Law and Justice, R Ramakrishnan, who graced the closing ceremony as special guest, mentioned in his speech that Taekwondo was introduced in the state of Nagaland with the aim of promoting martial arts and providing a platform for talented individuals to excel in the sport.

He lauded the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for playing a crucial role in supporting and grooming Taekwondo players in Nagaland. Ramakrishnan said that through their dedicated efforts, several players from the state have achieved significant milestones in Taekwondo. These talented athletes have participated in various national and international competitions, showcasing their skills and determination.

Looking ahead, there is hope that the collective efforts of the department of youth resources and sports, the players, and their parents will lead to further success, Ramakrishnan said while adding that by continuing to provide support and training, it is expected that Nagaland’s Taekwondo players will achieve even greater heights, capturing national and international medals in the near future.

The program was chaired by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of Youth Resources and Sports and vote of thanks was proposed by Megolhou Dolie, Additional Director YRS while thanksgiving prayer was offered by Zajamo Odyuo, Pastor City Church, Kohima.
